What we collect, why, and how to get rid of it.
What we collect
- Your account. If you sign in, our authentication provider (Clerk) holds your email address and, if you used Apple or Google, whatever that sign-in returned. We store an internal id and, once you publish, a creator handle.
- What you make. The premises you write, the manga generated from them, and the art direction you chose. Published manga is public by design — that is the point of the shelf.
- Your public profile. Your handle, display name, bio and — if you add one — a profile picture, which you choose from your own photo library and which is stored by Clerk. All of it is public. Your account email is not.
- What you say. Comments you leave on manga, and direct messages you send to other people. We store the text of both. Comments are public; direct messages are not public, but they are not end-to-end encrypted either — we can read them, and we do when someone reports one. You control who may message you.
- What you read. Which manga and which chapter, so the app can put you back where you were.
- Who you follow. Follows, saves, likes and the notifications they generate.
- Reports and blocks. If you report a manga, a comment or a person we keep the report; if you block someone we keep that so it keeps working.
- Membership status. Whether a subscription is active. Card details are never sent to us — Apple handles in-app purchases, and our payment processor handles web purchases.
You can read Animango without an account. A device that has not signed in gets an anonymous identifier so reading position works.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your data.
- We do not track you across other companies’ apps or sites.
- We do not use your email for anything but your account and support.
Who else touches it
Third-party AI. Making a manga means sending what you wrote — your premise, the scene you asked for, the names and descriptions of your characters — to AI companies who run the models that write and draw it. Today those are OpenAI, Anthropic, DeepSeek and OpenRouter (which routes to them) for the writing, and fal and Krea for the art. They receive the text of your prompt and the art they generate from it; they do not receive your email or your account. Agreeing to this policy when you create your account is how you permit that sharing, and if you would rather it did not happen, do not make a manga — reading needs none of it.
Sign-in and profile pictures run through Clerk. Purchases go through Apple, Google Play and Stripe. Analytics on the website run through PostHog and Vercel. Everything else is our own database.
Every one of these companies processes data on our behalf under their commercial terms, is required to protect it to the same standard this policy sets out, and is not permitted to use it for their own ends. We do not sell what you write to anyone, and we do not use it to train models of our own.
Deleting it
Profile → Delete account in the app removes your account and your personal information, and it is immediate. There is also a page describing how to ask if you have already uninstalled the app.
Manga you already published stays up, under an anonymous creator rather than your handle. Other people may be part-way through reading it, and pulling published work off the shelf when someone leaves would tear holes in other readers’ libraries. If you want your published work removed too, email support@animango.com and we will do it.
Your comments and direct messages go with your account. A conversation has another person in it, so what they wrote stays theirs to delete.
Children
Animango is not for children. You must be old enough to agree to our terms where you live, and at least 13 everywhere.
Asking us anything
support@animango.com. That includes asking for a copy of what we hold about you.
We will post changes here rather than changing this quietly.
